Friday Book Club- FREE TICKETS EDITION

Ette’s resident book worm (no, not me) weighs in with her fave fiction read and I keep it in the family (literally) with this month’s non-fiction recommendation.

Nine women have co-written a deeply-moving and necessary book. There's my mama in the middle. What a legend.

Happy last Friday of the month folks,

Let me start with a confession. I fancy myself an avid reader, if not in general than certainly the most avid reader at Ette Media (it’s a team of five c’mon). Turns out this is not the case.

For reasons not fully understood, our social media editor Soaliha has managed to read eight books this year. EIGHT! I find this very offensive.

In what dark arts is she so practiced that she can read a book a week? How has the internet not damaged her attention span as badly as it has mine? Why does she look so adorable in bookstores? These are the petty questions I have been forced to reckon with. Apparently, this literary accomplishment is due in part to being gifted an e-reader which, she says, “changed the game for [her].” Unlikely story!

Still, I plan to siphon whatever alchemy she’s wielding onto the pages of Fran’s Friday Book Club. So without further ado, enjoy this month’s fiction recommendation by Soaliha.

FICTION - BY SOALIHA

Blood Over Bright Haven by M.L. Wang

I feel nervous debuting on Frans’s Friday Book Club with a fantasy novel — I promise I love and read a lot of literary fiction! — but this was my fourth read of February and the one that punched me in the gut the most.
