The news cycle is full of harrowing stories of violence against women ranging from the alleged sexual assault of a teenage girl in an alleyway to alleged murders of women in their own homes. It’s easy to view these stories as isolated events, but stacking up news reports from the last two and a half weeks paints a broader and shocking picture.

75-year-old man arrested after woman found dead in regional Victoria

A woman was found dead and a 75-year-old man was arrested in Bacchus Marsh after emergency services were called at 3.30am on Wednesday morning. At the time of writing, police have not formally identified the woman.

The man is under police guard while being treated for non-life-threatening injuries in hospital, and it is believed he and the woman were known to each other. 

Homicide police are investigating.
